if you start exercising, your thyroid will begin to work properly, increasing your metabolism
Once you are on the correct dose of levothyroxine you are no different from anyone else! You need to watch your calorie intake and take no less than 30 minutes of vigorous exercise 5 days a week.
aim for a half to 1 pound per week ... avoid dairy ... drink plenty of water - it is a good idea to have a glass by your bed and chug it when you first wake up, then give yourself 20 minutes or so before eating breakfast - if you are taking thyroid meds, take it with the water in the morning and wait at least an hour before you eat breakfast, but not more than 2 hours ... eat 4 to 6 250cal-350 calorie meals per day ... don t gorge yourself ... eating whole citrus seems to help boost my metabolism (orange segments, etc.) just don t overdo the sugar ... lots of crunchy veggies and lean meats are good, too ... avoid eating after 7-7:30pm and go for a 20 minute walk after dinner ...good luck!!
I have an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) as well. Weight loss varies from person to person, but most dieticians will tell you that healthy weight loss is between .5 - 2 pounds per week.If you aren t seening results with your exercise and a proper diet, I urge you go to see an endocrinologist, so that you can have your thyroid analyzed and perhaps learn about medications that can help your thyroid work at a normal rate.Good luck!Ps... people who say that your thyroid will fix itself when you start exercising are wrong. I was on a strict diet and worked out 3x/week with a personal trainer, and still didn t lose any weight over the course of a month. As my doctor put it, Your metabolism is so slow, you d have to be Superman to lose any weight!
