How successful are commercial weight-loss programs? -

I wouldnt wast my money on anything, like that. They are trying to get your money. I would just diet and workout.

Well..I guess I could be a good person to talk to...have tried many diets...lost on some...but very hard to stay with them....until I found the one I am on now....am doing very well ....have lost 20 pounds in four weeks....they say staying on this you will lose 30 pounds in six weeks and that is totally proving true.I love this program...did a lot of searching to find it...I am older and have a very hard time losing weight...yet I am losing steadily....and it is pretty easy to stay on....I would recommend it to anyone to try...it is well worth the $99 for it...and it can be paid in payments. It is called The Six Week Body Makeover....find it on sixweekbodymakeover.com....and it includes an exercise program that is 18 minutes twice a week...I haven t even started that yet, but am still losing.Check it out...this one does work!...It teaches you how to eat right...which is just what I wanted to know....you eat more, not less...and you can stay on it

All diets work in the same way. If they restrict calories to a point where you are burning more than you eat, you will lose weight. If the diet does this than it will work, if not you will fail. Whether or not a diet is healthy is separate from whether or not it will work. If you severely restrict calories to under 1200 per day, you will lose weight but going this route is very unhealthy so be careful when reading about these diets. Also beware of diets that limit you to one food. Even if you are taking in a good amount of calories, you won t be able to get all the vitamins, nutrients, fat, carbohydrates or protein from just one type of food.Beginners Guide to Dieting - http://straighthealth.com/pages/guides/b

Simple diet of eating slower and less while drinking more water? -

if i drink water when i m hungry, wait a while and if i m still hungry eat very slowly so i can eat the minimal to satisfaction will i lose weight quickly? i m not very lazy, but i do have bad habits of eating very fast and eating whatever i want, whenever (even if i m not hungry) i successfully fasted while drinking a lot of water yesterday so i figure a diet where i eat the minimal my body is telling me to eat should be easy and i should lose weight healthily (and not any muscle like an all water fast would have done to me) just wondering if anyone with knowledge in the field knows if such a simple diet would work... i m just curious if it would because it seems like the natural way to lose weight, but nobody s doing it

That sounds a lot like Paul McKenna s diet plan. Eat slowly so that your body knows when it is full, eat only when you are hungry, eat what you want so you don t binge on forbidden foods, and stop eating when you are full. Pretty simple, but like what you said, a lot of people shovel food right in and don t think about what they are eating. I recommend taking a look at his rules and talking in chat rooms to other people who have tried this method. Eating conciously really can help you lose weight.

If you don t eat anything yo ure going to actually lose muscle isntead of fat, even with water. You need to eat a healthy breakfast of things like eggs and sugarfree cereal and things like that, lunch of light meals like a sandwich or salad and dinner of a filling food so you don t go hungry overnight. Overall a 1500 calorie diet will help you keep a healthy weight and heart along with exercise. Drinking water if you feel like snacking is an okay idea, but it s also a good idea to eat something like an apple or orange when you wanna snack.

Theres a trick you can do.When you have a mouthful of food put your fork down until you have ate the last bit of food. Do this with every mouthful. Because usually you would load your fork with food before you have ate the bit thats in your mouth, so your more likely to eat the food on the fork even if you dont really want it. It takes time for yourbody to realise your full, so putting your fork down during every mouthful will help determine when you are indeed full and you re less likely to over eat!Good luck =)

im not an expert , but i agree with you i use this kind of diet to stop me snacking (eg , drink water instead of eating something) but i dont use it to replace mealsim not in any rush to loose weight , i just want to stay a healthy sizei have read about it in certain magasines , and to me it seems like a kind of diet that is just emerging before the summer diet rush, but not as a diet to loose lots of weight (as when you are VERY hungry , drinking water does not help!! ):) xxxx

As long as you re still eating, and choosing better foods, eating slowly is a great way to go. Feeling full receptors in your brain take about 20 minutes to activate after you ve eaten, so if you eat fast, your brain doesn t realize right away when you ve had enough.

I m never hungry when I cut back on what I drink, if I don t drink anything I m simply never really hungry, but when I do drink I become hungry.... I m a guy though, so I don t have female water retention and cycles so that may be a difference

What is the best way to advertise for a weight loss program? -

Show your results off via computer, or ads.

real life spokesperson who used the program. show the whole process of how he/she trimmed down.

Print or TV ads with Before and After pics. Seem to be the industry standard.

Internet leaflets through the door or in the yellow pages

On Yahoo!Answers I find certain questions being asked repeatedly which is simply a reflection of new people participating. A couple of common question amounts to How do I lose weight, or more specifically, How do I lose abdominal fat? I have gotten very positive responses from my answers when I paused to reply (and now beginning to get It works! emails that are very gratifying. I like helping people)... so have recently decided to put a good solid answer on my Yahoo!360 Blog (September 10) that I can point people to. These are my thoughts as a physician and athlete.Don t target losing more than about 2 lbs per week. If you try to lose faster, your body will go into starvation mode and get very stingy about burning calories while at the same time very efficient about storing any calories that you do provide. And it will make you feel awful. There is no site specific way of losing fat... the old myth about working your abs to burn belly fat isn t true. To get rid of love handles, you need to lose overall fat. That happens with exercise and watching your diet. More on that below. The most effective way to lose fat is aerobic exercise in the moderate fat-burning range, ideally first thing in the morning before you eat. When you wake your body is ready to burn fat and your levels of growth hormone are highest at that time. Later in the day it can take up to 30 minutes just to put your body into a fat-burning mode. Another overlooked way to burn fat is by lifting weights. Skeletal muscle has very high caloric needs... almost twice that of adipose (fat) tissue. Put on a little muscle and you will burn calories all day even at rest. Be aware that skeletal muscle weighs more, so with this approach you may see your weight increasing while your body fat is melting away. Not realizing this often stresses folks who think they should be losing weight as a measure of fitness. Forget the scale, look in the mirror and you will be happy. To lose a pound of fat, you need to eliminate about 3500 calories. You can do this by burning more with exercise or by modifying your diet to reduce intake. If you do a Google search on say, swimming calories you will quickly find a website with tables of calories burned for a given exercise. You can use such lists to estimate how many calories you are burning up with your routine. For diet, keep a diary for a couple of weeks counting calories, grams of protein, and grams of fat intake. It is easy with online sources of nutritional information (type the name of the food and calories into the Google search engine) and packaging labels. That will let you quickly figure out where the fat is coming from in your diet. Fat gives you 9 calories per gram. So take the number of grams of fat, multiply by 9, then calculate what percentage the fat calories are of your total daily calories. Restricting the calories from fat to about 20% of your total intake is ideal for a maintenance diet... that isn t overly restrictive. Of note, you need some fat in your diet. For instance, the body uses fat to produce hormones. Once you have a picture of how to modify your diet, you can drop the diary and just go back to it occasionally if you are wanting to tweek things further. There is a subset of questions that goes further and asks about How to get a six-pack? The answer is the same. Six-packs are 20% abdominal exercise and 80% diet. There is one caveat... abdominal muscles will form in the position that you work them, so be certain to pull them tightly toward your spine while doing crunches, etc. Also, during most lifting, the core is active which means that you should be stabilizing with contracted abs then too. Fail to do this and the abs will form, but bulging outward and the result is not attractive. If you are trying to build muscle as a way to lose fat, then you may need to increase total calories and specifically your protein intake. I target about 0.8 g of protein per pound of body weight each day when actively building. That is far more protein than most people need in their diets.Aloha

You didn t detail what you re eating. If they are healthy small meals and are spaced evenly throughout the day, you should lose weight quickly. Drink a lot of water. If your meals don t consist of high sugar or high fat options, it sounds like you have the winning formula.

low-carb diet just for 2 weeks, works everytime.

liposucktion

If you lose weight fast it will come back fast. You have to change your eating habits completely. And continue to exercises.Swimming is good for melting fat.

if you starve yourself, your body will shut down and conserve your fat. Eat, excerise, and sleep normally.

Yo Yo diets (south beach etc.) will help you lose weight fast but not keep it off. Try things to boost your metabolism like eating small meals and snacks more frequently, and also weight lifting to build muscle. One pound lost amounts to 3500 calories. Adding a low calorie diet will help. Losing about a pound a week is healthy. keep trying!!!!

The faster you lose weight, the faster you might gain it back. Keep doing what you re doing. Keep those portions small and stay away from sugars. Also stay away from carbs in the late afternoon/evening.

Eat low carbs and the weight comes off quickly

Don t eat as much as you brun. It IS that smiple

I need to start a weight loss program but not sure which is best. Weight watchers? Jenny Craig? Nutrisystem? -

I weigh 224 lbs and desperately need to get my weight under control. I don t know what the best way to go is. I ve tried just eating better but I don t have the will power. I need a program that I have to report to. What is the best thing in your opinion? Ediets, Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem, Jenny Craig, Best Life Diet? I m 27 and have to cook for a very picky 5 year old and husband as well.

First, relax. Everyone gets discouraged sometime. Here s the remedy. After a week of this forced routine, you ll look forward to waking up every morning. You might even decide to eat this way forever because there are no absolutes. Report your results to a diary, your husband, your five year old. They ll enjoy your success and join you in the effort.Every day for seven days, sit still for a while about 20-30 minutes in a quiet place, let all thoughts come and go. Pick an arbitrary thing to do and do it without investment, that is, do it for its own sake not for its effect or outcome. Eat well for ONLY seven days. Specifically, eat six meals a day, three modest sized main meals at Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and three SMALL meals or snacks, one between each meal and one after Dinner. For the main meals, eat a starch, preferably whole grain such as brown rice or whole wheat, a vegetable and a protein, avoid fatty meats. For the snacks, eat a piece of whole fruit, a small salad, or yogurt, or a few nuts and raisins or seeds, maybe two whole wheat or brown rice fig bars or the like. If you absolutely must eat more, choose protein, it satisfies more than vegetable and keeps your metabolism going in the right direction.Get at least 7.5 hours of sleep each night. Go to bed early if you must get up early. While going about your daily business, i.e. the things that you have to do, work physical exercise into your routine, for example, choose the stairs not the elevator, walk to school or work, walk whenever you can choose between walking or riding. Push a lawn mower, ride a bike, etc. but do not, I repeat, do not do these things until they make you miserable, just do them to get comfortable using your body again like you did when you were a little girl, that is without giving it a second thought.Go to the library at least one day and browse the book stacks for at least 30 minutes. Take out at least one book, but not more than five.Do not turn the TV on for more than 30 minutes each day, preferably not at all. Read. Read. Read. Meet with a relatively thin person who is at least twenty years older than you and ask her questions about her life. After a week, you ll begin to understand more about your body and its cravings. And you will have become your own weight watcher consultant. At the end of the seven days, take a break or re-enlist, consult your audience.

I lost weight following Weight Watcher s. You don t have to buy special foods like you do for other programs, so you can incorporate what you learn about healthy eating into your lifestyle. There s online version or weekly meetings, so you can pick what suits your schedule.

Weight Watchers. However, personally, If you can meet with a nutritionist, or your dr. say, once a month, to check in on your weight loss progress, you could ask your dr. for an apt. with a nutritionist, and ask for the ways of the Diabetic Exchange Diet. It actually is regular eating, of all good foods, just based on caloric intake, based on your height/weight, etc. Also, for exercise , there are things to do like walking, swimming, bowling, dancing (even in the privacy of your own home to dance to your favorite music). Fun things to move that precious body of yours. Please, if you need something other than dr/nutritionist, go with Weight Watchers, they have been around longer, and are pretty good. I wish you the best. Take care.

I like Weight Watchers. :]Good ice cream. :]

I have had success with Weight Watchers! You can lose weight and keep it off!

This site has a lot of info on weight loss programs. You have to decide what s best for you. http://www.healthcastle.com/weightloss_pI must say I know several people swear by weight watchers. One of my friends lost 110lbs. I think the reason for success is that it promotes a lifestyle change rather than a diet. I try to eat healthy and use a lot of weight watchers recipes. They taste great.Good luck!

Weight Watchers

Don t blow your money on buying meals. It s alot cheaper just to cook stuff on your own. But remember, a weight loss program isn t just diet, it s also exercise. I d recomend the abs diet. It s pretty straightforward. High protien, medium carbs, and low fat.

weight watchers, definitely

http://quiz.ivillage.com/diet/tests/dietTake this quiz at iVillage to find out what kind of dieter you are. I am not too familiar with Jenny Craig, Best Life, or Ediets, but I am familiar with Nutrisystem and Weight Watchers. In my opinion Weight Watchers sounds best for you. You can cook your own meals or eat out, so long as you don t exceed your alotted points per day. I have many friends who have been very successful with Weight Watchers... their recipes are delicious as well and the support groups will keep you motivated and on track. Nutrisystem is more expensive, but is also effective.

I recently started going to Curves for Women because I need to loose 10 lbs. I ve lost 4 lbs, by exercising everyday and cutting down on my food intake. I DON T deny myself the foods I love, but just eat smaller quantities..

Well done for contemplating changes in your life. Any of these diets would be good to follow, as long as you are eating healthy (fruit veg, fish, chicken etc..) they will give you lots of advice in these classes on what to eat. Just remember to exercise while dieting as this will help to speed up weight loss and tone. Good luck!

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day8 glasses of waterhave complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energyhave lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs musclecardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight trainingdont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

Hi,Well my wife and I have been on this Health and Diet plan for 52 days, my wife has lost 19 pounds and I have lost 21 pounds. My wife has tried all the above mentioned diets with the results not very promising. We are now on the right plan. The plan is very simple. There is no weighing, counting, on watching everything in site. It s two shakes a day, two snacks in between and a meal at dinner.
