What exercises can I do to help lose weight with a back injury? -

I have bulging discs and chronically degenerative discs in my lower back ( S1, L3,L4,L5). I have been told not to do anything by my doctor, (It has been 8 weeks now), but I am rapidly putting on weight, any suggestions about gentle exercises that will help me lose the extra kilos whilst I have this injury. I have started a weight loss program, but I need some exercise..... Please help..

Here are six simple tips that will have you losing weight in a balanced and healthy way.1. Lose weight with water.Water is essential for everybody - it is also the key to losing weight. If you haven t been drinking enough water, your body has developed a pattern of storing water. This water retention equals extra unwanted weight.By drinking more water, you are not only flushing out toxins, you are also teaching your body that it no longer needs to store water. Drink at least 60 ounces of water (about 8 glasses) a day. Boil water and sliced lemons, and drink this throughout the day to help with fluid retention. If you are still not sold on the merits of water, try this on for size: water is a natural appetite suppressant.2. Soup up your weight loss program.A simple dietary change will have you shedding pounds: eat a bowl of soup at least once a day. Nutritious, low-salt soups will nourish you as they flush waste from your body. People who eat a serving of soup daily lose more weight than those who eat the same amount of calories but don t eat soup. Go for homemade soup whenever possible, as canned soups are loaded with salt and chemicals.3. Eat early to keep weight off.The human body follows a circadian rhythm, which means that the same foods eaten at breakfast and lunch are processed differently than when eaten at dinner. Studies show that when you eat your daily protein and fat at breakfast you tend to lose weight and have more energy; however, eating the same things at dinner tend to increase tendencies toward weight gain. I suggest that you eat your last meal of the day by 7 p.m.4. Eat smaller meals, more frequently.Follow an eating schedule with five little meals every day. Eating steadily through the day keeps you from becoming famished and overeating at your next meal. Make a low-fat trail mix from raw almonds, pumpkin seeds, dried plum, and apples and have it available at all times to avoid the tempting lure of high-calorie snacks.5. Adopt a balanced approach to your diet. Most of the fad diet programs out there nowadays are extreme in a few recommended foods, or else deprive the body of food altogether. This works in opposition to our metabolism and the results usually don t last, producing a yoyo effect that depresses your metabolic function - not to mention your self-esteem. We are natural beings that need a balance of nutrition from all sources.Your diet should consist of a balance of organic sources of lean protein, complex carbohydrates, whole grains, legumes, nuts, fruits, and vegetables. Instead of white rice and pasta, opt for brown rice, bulgur, millet, or buckwheat.Eat more green, chlorophyll-rich foods such as broccoli, kale, spinach, and asparagus. Eliminate candy, sugar, soda, and all simple sugars from your diet. Excess sugar ends up being stored as fat in your body, which results in weight gain. Also, keep dairy to a minimum because most dairy products are high in saturated fat. Avoid fatty foods, processed or fried foods.6. Walk off the weight. The No. 1 cause of weight gain is inactivity. Physical activity is the key to speeding up your metabolism and burning excess calories. The best way to be physically active is to use your legs! Walk as often and as long as you can. Always take the stairs instead of the elevator.Step outside during your break at work and take a walk around your building. Consider joining a local hiking club. Try taking a walk 30 minutes in the morning or 30 minutes in the early evening.I hope this article helps you shed some pounds and add on the years! My Sister fractured her lower back last May and, as she was always so active, it was horrid to watch her unable to run or do any sports. You really do need medical advice but now, 8 months later, she is allowed to swim for a little (she uses a kickboard for the first 10 or so lengths for her abs) and run gently on grass. She didn t really take the doctors advice initially which has caused problems in that it has taken longer to heal. A physio will always be your best bet and wouldn t advise doing anything until you get the ok from them. Good luck!

How can i lose weight quickly? -

my family is emotionally and verbally abusive and i have deeply considered anerexia. i dont like my body anymore. i weigh 127 pounds and im 5 6 . i know people say models are unaturally skinny but at least they pull it off. im 13 years old, suggestions?

Hey, we re the same age! :D ...Sorry, that was randomSome advice:Looks: Mirrors and scales could be misleading. When you go on the scale after exercising for a while (don t expect too much in a small amount of time), you may discover that you actually gained weight--- that s because your muscles weigh more than fat (just in case you didn t know) :)Exercise: Try walking (it has been proven to be really effective) and jump rope, too.Sleep: I would suggest that you also give yourself plenty of rest (one burns calories while sleeping!) Stress could also add weight.Food: DON T EAT TOO LITTLE!! The main point of exercising is to get muscles because muscles use up a lot of calories (thus you get skinnier). But if you eat too little, your body will eat your muscles, so all those exercises were for nothing...Eat lots of vegetables and healthy things without a lot of oil. Don t forget meat.Drink lots of cold water (you lose calories because it lowers the stomach s temp.-- it tries to raise the temp. again-- uses up energy)

It doesn t sound like you need to really lose weight. Your BMI is 20.Which is in the ideal weight range for your height. Your 13 don t be so caught up on the fashion models. As you help people set their goals on the way to looking and feeling better, BMI is a powerful tool you can use to help create their personal path to improved health. As a trusted wellness advisor, you should let people know that a high BMI can be associated with serious health risks including: obesity heart disease diabetes cancerWhat the results meanBMI provides a helpful guideline for achieving the weight range that s healthiest for your customers. You can interpret your customer s BMI results as follows:RESULTBelow 20 = slender-lean 20 to 25 = ideal weight range 25 to 30 = overweight (25-27 could be healthy range if large-boned and heavily muscled) 30 and above = very overweight/high risk 40 and above = extremely overweight / high risk for health complications

For girls age 13 years you should not go on to weight loose because you are very young yet and still need to grow. Put on few pounds and stand up for yourself don t let things get to you. Emotionally distress can effect your health. Abusive language is not tolerated the family should know better.

Focusing all your energies on losing weight is not the answer to your family problems. Your weight is perfect for your height so why would you want to lose weight and make yourself unhealthy? You should focus on the positive things in your life and concentrate on your friends, school, hobbies etc. I hope you take my advice! Be strong!xx

Posted this elsewhere, posting it again :you need a 2000 cal diet minimum every day. remember, its also what you eat. Here are a few tips:1.) Run on the streets every morning for around 20 mins on an empty stomach. This is very effective in cutting out fat.2.) try to do 100 crunches a day.3.) drink lots and lots of water.4.) keep the last meal of the day very light and at least an hour before you go to bed.

Sometimes very low calorie diets dont work. I wouldn t say they don t work at all because some models are reallly skinny cause they probably eat very little a day.

You do not need to lose weight. Talk to a counselor at your school about your issues, but needing to lose weight is not one of them.

Has anyone bought the e-manual from R.E.W.L. weight loss program and was it any good? Thanks? -

I was looking at this program on line, cost $24.49. Supposely you can trick your body to burn fat???? I know a lot of you will say just eat less and exercise. If it were that simple, many Americans would not have a weight problem. I am having a terrible time trying to find self discipline and motivation! I need Help!!!!!!!!! Prayers, whatever that can help me to change, I feel so bad about myself.

Actually it IS that simple, however, many Americans either:- Give up too fast.- Too lazy to exercise.- Do not wish to eat less.- Procrastinate.I don t think there is a way to trick your body into losing weight except anaerobic exercises (don t just run or do crunches, lift weights and do high reps) and eating less. Some foods like nuts will release a chemical to your brain telling you are full (even though you may have a little bit of space left) to make you stop eating too much.
