Does anyone have any weight loss tips? -

I have been told I must lose a stone to maximise my chances of falling pregnant through IVF treatment but I am having real trouble shifting it. I know all about healthy eating and am trying to exercise more but I seem to have less motivation (and more chocolate cravings) every day. Does anyone know of any tried and tested ways to help build motivation and willpower and get this weight shifted for good. Thanks.

Forget about losing weight. Just adopt a healthy lifestyle.Eat a good healthy diet and excercise a lot!!! The more excercise you do the better! For a healthy diet, you need to be eating small to medium meals regularly. 4 or even 5 times a day. Each meal (apart from breakfast which should preferably be fibre rich), should contain a balanced ammount of carbohydrates for energy, (from potatoes, rice and pasta, etc) protien (from fish, chicken, occassional red meat is fine, soya is good too) and plenty of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants (simple fresh fruit and veg). Eat like this and make sure you are well hydrated (fruit juice is as good as water, any fluid counts, but some fluids have negative effects too, such as alcohol or caffiene rich drinks.)Now for the science bit: Protien is essential for repairing muscle and keeping the muscle you do have healthy (this includes your heart, lungs, brain etc). You naturally lose the ammount of protien you have throughout the day (through urine etc) so this needs to be replenished regularly on a daily basis.Carbohydrates are essential for energy. You won t be able to function without it. It also regulates body fat and glucose etc.Vitamins and minerals are obviously essential for a variety of reasons. For normal growth and development, for the healthy maintenance of the cells, tissues, and organs that make up our bodies, and also to let us efficiently use chemical energy provided by food. You can have a wide range of healthy meals with this, from Thai, Chinese, Italian, British, Indian, etc. Just make sure each meal contains balanced ammounts of these three. On the bright side too, fresh veg and rice and pasta is a lot cheaper than crappy junk food! This doesn t mean you cant have chocolate or pizza/takeaway/etc, just save them as very occassional treats. The big secret to keeping a healthy weight and staying healthy is EXCERCISE, particularly cardio excercise. Cardio exercise includes any form of excercise such as running/jogging/swimming/cycling etc that gets your heart rate pumping and you sweating and out of breath. It will not only burn calories and reduce your body fat levels, therefore making you slimmer by having less fat on you, but will also improve your resting heart rate and lung function, making you healthier. I cannot understate the importance of cardio excercise. It is this which will basically burn the body fat off you. But you have to remember that once you have shed a bit of fat you have to have a nice toned body underneath the fat to show off. Strength training will help you strengthen and tone your muscles. This is done with the use of weights or by free training. There are essentially (without getting overly complicated) two types of strength excercises based on different types of muscle fibres depending on wether you want to build size, bulk and power, or just tone up the lean muscles an get more muscle endurance.Heavy weights with short reps/sets will build your fast twitch muscle fibres and build size, power and strength. Imagine big guys at the gym lifting heavy weights. But if you use light to medium weights with lots of reps/sets you will excercise your slow twitch muscle fibres, you wont build size, but you will tone up your body and train muscle endurance. This will obviously make you look healthier and more toned, but will also increase your metabolism (as your muscles demand more energy) so you will burn calories faster. These muscles are also excercised a lot with cardio workouts (i.e your leg muscles when running).Your arms for example, will need bicep curls and tricep dips using weights and reps of your choice (heavy - low reps, light - lots of reps) and also shoulder excercises such as holding the weights at your waist and lifting them perpendicular to your side or in front of you, etc etc.Your stomach will need excercises that cover the entire torso. Leg raises for your lower ab wall, crunches, sit ups and planks for your upper and all over ab wall, oblique twists for your sides and superman stretches for your lower back for example. These are just basic examples, there are literally hundreds of excercises, but it is impossible to show you on a site like this, get a trainer at your gym to show you some but remember the basic rules of muscles and weights. As far as excercise goes, you should aim to strike a balance between cardio training and strength training, this way you will build good strong and toned muscle, but also keep your body fat levels down and increase your heart and lung performance, making you much fitter and healthier.

I have tried to lose weight for a long time and unfortunately, I decreased my metabolism with dieting and fasting. I realised now that the only way to lose weight permanently is regular exercise with a combination of endurance sport like walking, swimming or cycling and muscle building (toning), which is very important. This increases your metabolism, i.e. you lose more weight even if you are sleeping, it makes you fitter and makes you lose weight in an astonishingly short time. I joined the Curves gym (women-only) 7 weeks ago and lost 2 dress sizes (don t know how many pounds), but I m very happy with it, and every lady can do it, because you can adjust the exercise to your fitness level. You really dont need to torture your body with dieting, exercise is quite enough. Just eat a lot of fruit and vegetables and proteins too, but you dont need to cut out anything. Good luck!ps: I disagree with the people suggesting counting calories. You are only eating too much if you eat without being hungry. If you re hungry, your body needs food. I don t see where calorie counting comes in there. Just listen to your body and only eat when you are truly hungry.

You need to join a weight watchers, where others that are in the same position and you can help each other, you do need a lot of will power, I get up in the morning and do an exercise programe on the wii sports, it is great, and if you get a little fed up there are fun exercises that you can do, You must try to change your life style and eat healthy foods. I recommend a good calorie controlled diet. and a lot if will power.

One good tip is calorie count.Get a little notebook and record everything you eat no matter how small and the number of calories it is. Add up as you go alongIt helps will power.Keep the book in a pocket or close by you and don t cheat.Doing something will also keep your mind off snackingIf you are active your calorie count will be about 1500 calories to lose weight if not it will only be about 1300Good luck!!

It is all a matter of calories in calories out. If your body doesn t use the calories you put into your body your body will store them as fat. So you will gain weight if you are not active but still eat too much. I lost 5 pounds in one week just cutting back on my excessive calories. Make healthy choices such as fruit for snack and cut your portions down. You can still have that whole burger but try to cut it in half and have the other half as a snack later. It really works. Once you put your mind to it you don t even realize you are counting your calories, in time it becomes a habit. Good Luck!

I was told to lose weight before IVF, I personally did Weight Watchers, points system. It allowed me to all types of food but I just had to track everything. I also starting walking more.I just kept in mind I was doing this to have a successful pregnancy and a healthy baby it really helped to keep my motivated.Best of Luck.

every time you feel low or don t want to exercise or eat healthy or if you re reaching for that 5th piece of chocolate try thinking of the baby you would have if you finally loose that weight think of how he/she would look like and the smile on the face... that should get you 30 more min on that treadmillgood luck!

Well, that s a hard order..just lookingup IVF treatment amd stone s. so a stone is 14 pounds, and IVF treatment is invitro treatment to produce more eggs, usualy when the dad has lower spurm count..okay let s go!I have spent a life time overcoming this extra weight, and have now succeded. after having All my teeth extracted, i could ony have fluids, then pureed diet.So i incorporated all the things i know, including that fast weight loss just comes right back on.The trick is having protein(low fat at every meal), so i start break fast with protein powder(ISO/Whey is an excelent brand..comes in fruit, choclate or vanilla)...to it i add sweetner, 1/2 cup low fat yogurt(put in the freezer half an hour), and 1/2 cup of milk.I put all the ingredients in my Magic Bullet(or any blender..the ice can be more difficult to break down, so if necessary put it in a plastic and smash away at all your problems, and you end up with smashed ice.i top with a tablesoon of roasted green pepitas(sunflower seeds), or 7 almonds ground up.i do this when i wake up, it tastes like the best ice0cream or milk-shake ever! Seriously! so that s my favourite. it holds my appetite and blood sugar 5-6 hours(meaning i am not hungry at all!)Next 2 meals, 1/2 cup organic brown rice, 1 cup fat-free protein(like 4 chicken legs, or any other choice you have, just make it low fat...and finaolly a cup of pre-made mixed vegetables done in advance..take say carrots, 1/2 yam, collard greens, etc. and i pureed it..(this purreeing helped me a lot, as if stopped my IBs(IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME)..ALLTHIS because i had all my teeth removed, Dec. 9th.i was 157(5 8 ), and am now 140 pounds..probably a stone in english)puree everything, and it tastes deliscious, sometimes add garlic soy marinade, and again some nuts and seeds.I have only been really hungry once, and i think the best thing you can do here, is have 1/2 cup of AllBram cereal, like old people do..combined with 1/2 cup milk, it fills the stomach and bulks up, putting off your appetite for a few hours. Some call it the zone diet half plate veggies, 1/3 proteini/1/3 carbs and small amount fat..I am taking the time to share with you, but cause it s perfect for me, and i have tried everything always gaining the weight back. so this took 21/2 months. i went from 156 pounds to 140 lbs.(my ideal weight), but i want to loose 7-8 more,so i can fit into all my clothes, as this was my weight all my life.Being disabled, i can t do much excercise, but if you can walk for 3o minutes a day, it will make the whole process faster, and be calming to you and your new baby.**Key thing i did:i eliminated all bread and sugar dec. 8th(i was so addicted to tim horton s multi-grain bagels for lunch with grilled cheese, butter and nuts! i don t have a single craving, after about a month...now i don t even think about it. you can live withithout choclate, or the protein part of the shakes comes in choclate.hope this helps..i have become a little guru , after tring everything..i now know to go slow, so i don t gain alll the weight back and more(rebound starvation!). i don t count calories as a rule, and weigh once a month(if i didn t throw my scale away, i would be obscessed with it! Make sure you have variety in your veggies/protein,etc.Treatment: What to expectNear the beginning of your menstrual cycle, you ll take a fertility drug that stimulates your ovaries to develop several mature eggs for fertilization. (You normally release only one egg a month.) You may also need to take a synthetic hormone called Lupron to keep your body from releasing your eggs too early. You ll visit your doctor s office or clinic often so she can monitor your blood hormone levels and take ultrasound measurements of your ovaries to detect when your eggs are mature. Once your eggs are mature, your doctor will give you an anesthetic and remove your eggs from your ovaries by inserting a needle through your vaginal wall, using ultrasound for guidance. Your doctor will then combine your eggs with your partner s sperm in a dish in a laboratory. Two to five days later, each of your fertilized eggs will be a ball of cells called an embryo. Your doctor will place two to four of the embryos in your uterus by inserting a thin catheter through your cervix. Extra embryos, if there are any, may be frozen in case this cycle doesn t succeed. If the treatment works, an embryo will implant in your uterine wall and continue to grow into a baby. In just over 30 percent of IVF pregnancies, more than one embryo implants and women give birth to multiples.) You ll be able to take a pregnancy test about two weeks after your embryos are placed in your uterus.Length of treatmentIt takes about four to six weeks to complete one cycle of IVF. You ll have to wait a few weeks for your eggs to mature. Then you and your partner will spend about half a day at your doctor s office or clinic having your eggs retrieved and fertil
