Weight loss for young people? -

Personally, I think that young people should not go on a real weight loss program until they re finished developing, unless they re really overweight. Like obviously they should get exercise and eat right, but unless they re severely overweight, I think they should wait until they re older to really worry about it. Am I right on this?

I agree with you that children need to exercise and eat right, but it is important to be aware if there is an overweight child or not because it could lead to serious health problems as they continue to grow up. Now if a child does exercise and eat right they should have no problem in the first place, so this should take care of it to begin with. But everyone goes through that awkward stage where nothing is the size it should be and we re not as skinny as we would like to be compared to other people our age, so that of course is understandable.I do not think that anyone, regardless of age, should ever go on any type of fad diet, diet pills, or things of that nature. So of course I do not think children should even be exposed to that kind of stuff. Since kids are in the very important stages of growth it would be very bad to limit their intake of the right kinds of fat, protein, or carbohydrates, which is what those types of diets do.Hopefully kids do not have to worry about being overweight, but in today s society it is becoming more and more prevalent which leads to earlier signs of diabetes, heart disease, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and other problems.Parents just really need to focus on eating right and exercise, especially in the younger years of their children because this will make it easier for the children to stick with for life, but parents also do not need to be forceful with it.

What kind of foods should my diet consist of to increase my stamina and become leaner? -

I am 18 at 155 pounds and im 5 10 11% body fat ive been through lots of dieting throughout the years. I began dieting at the age of 14 then I weighed about 213 pounds 21% body fat. So i have come along way I have been through several diets such a slimfast which is horribile, medifast which is very effective but it takes alot of energy out of you, the atkins diet which i think by far is the easiest as well the most effective diet allowing you to build muscle and lose weight quickly. But the very large problem with this is that you lose alot of nutrients you need to grow and I think this atkins diet in particular has weakened my bones and caused my growth to be stunted to some extent. But any ways now im in the best shape of my life and eat an assortment of foods and exercise excessively. But im am conditioning my self to prepare for bootcamp in the airforce and i have been for 3 weeks. I am planning to study for the asvap and prepare myself physically for 2 more weeks and ive noticed my stamina isnt what it should for the 1.5 mile run although I can meet all the other physical requirements by far. I am wondering what are some things i can do to build my stamina for running and particularly what are the foods i should eat to build my stamina. I run/walk 0.8 of a mile every other day. I have slight pains in my joints because of lifting heavy weights and get shin splints sometimes when i run therefore I take calcium supplements for my bones so a low carb diet isnt very appealing to me. I would appreciate any useful comments and thankyou for reading my very long a$$ question.

Fun workout videos?!? -

whats something fun and up beat that will get me sweating and losing weight quickly :) ? thanks ! xox

I like Walk Away the Pounds by Leslie Sansone. She s so fun and upbeat.

I workout with some friend and we do Tai- Bo, Tony Little (partly because he is hilarious, and really does work us out!), and the Biggest Loser Tapes. I am not anywhere near being *overweight* so I am doing this mainly for toning and just to stay healthy.. but my best friend who is doing this with me has lost quite a bit, and is getting toned at the same time. The trick (in my opinion) is to stick with it! You cannot expect to lose weight/get toned by doing any exercise only once.. or only once a week. We do this about 4-5 times a week, and we constantly switch it up- partly because it gets boring doing the SAME workout day in and day out. These are relatively easy workouts (basically ANYONE can pick it up pretty quickly), very fun and upbeat- especially if you can get a group of friends to do it with you!, and yeah, it does get me sore and feeling like things are getting stronger/fitter/ better!Hope this helps!(But dont just take my word for it, try all kinds of different movies out and find what works for you... just because *Arobic Dance* didnt work for us, you might find it a blast!)Christa

Am i doing enough in my weight loss program? -

i am 27 yrs old, 5 10 270 lbs. i want to loose 90 lbs in 9 months. i walk 3 hrs a day (approx 15 kms) eating 2500 to 3000 calories (all healthy food). i started 3 weeks ago havnt lost a single pound. even my waist is the same as it was 3 weeks ago. only thing i have achieved is the stamina that is building up. am i doing anything wrong or is it normal for it to take this long. i am starting to get demotivated now due to the lack of results.also, is 90 lbs in 9 months realistic or not?should i add anything to my current program??

Ok. Walking 3hrs a day is good, but your calorie intake is high. Try cutting back to about 1500 calories a day. And maybe walking 3 miles a day. Drink lots of water and eat more veggies and fruits and whole grains. Cut out anything processed and start cooking healthy meals. Your meat should be no bigger than the palm of your hand. ANd yes its possible to lose 90 lbs in 9 months. Heres the formula. OK. Your body burns 2000 calories just to sustain itself. You would need to eat 2000 calories to stay at the same weight. So, to lose weight you need to cut your calories to say 1500 a day. It takes burning 3500 calories to burn 1 pound of fat. Say you are walking 3 miles a day, that is about 300 calories burnt in one day. So, you can take the amount of calories you consumed 1500 subtract 300 and 1200 calories is your caloric intake for the day. Then take 2000 and subtract 1200 and you get 800, which is calories burned for the day. Take 800 times 7 days and that is 5600 calories in one week. Which is 1.6 calories a week. Which is 6.4 pounds in one month. But it will be about 10 plbs a month because you don t vegatate when your not walking. But remember healthy fresh foods are a key to.

Your eating too many calories, that is why you are not losing weight. Decrease your calories to 2200 and see if you start losing weight. If not decrease it to 2000 calories. Keep up with the walking although I think 3 hours is a little much. If possible start weight lifting, it will increase your metabolism and build muscle. You say you are eating healthy foods but you don t say what they are...........

What do yall think about Curves weight loss program? -

costs and plans?

My mother and absolutely all of her friends not only love Curves and show great results, but they have stuck to it for over 3 years now. I joined her a few times and liked it, but at 21, it just wasn t for me. Everyone there (and at two other locations around my area) was in their forties or above, so I felt a little bit out of place. But one thing I liked was that it was all women--no feeling stupid or intimidated in front of a bunch of guys. I would recommend it for anyone to try, although in my early twenties, it wasn t right for me. Oh--and the cost is something like $250 every four months I believe, but there are a lot of promotions to make it cheaper. The whole circuit takes about 20 minutes, which is easy to squeeze in 3 or more times a week.

go try it out for yourself and find out

Well its very small, not many machines but I hear they are very good much more personal than the bigger gyms. I guess that depends on you and what your needs are. If your serious about getting fit or you just want to hang out at a big gym its really a matter of personal preference. Thats good your taking the first step in making your body healthy. Thats what is important

I personally haven t used the program but I know a couple of peopel who did and there are mixed reviews about their experience with it. One of them actually left Curves and joined W.W. because she liked their support systems better than Curves. Another like the overall program and for a while she like the workout rountine but eventually grew bored with it and joined some workout classes at the Y. Almost forgot the positive...a co-worker of mine joined Curves about 3 months ago and she loves it she actually said she liked it better than Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers.I ve seen specials were you can join their program on a trial bases so I recommend doing that to see how you like it.
